Grandma Mari 1924-2008

Just shy of five year of being by himself in heaven, our 'Papa-D' couldn't wait any longer and came back to bring his beloved wife of 60 some-odd years back home with him. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother to our three boys, Mardell Speers, returned home to be with our grandpa whom she loved and missed dearly. She left her body yesterday, in the same bedroom where papa-d passed, just feet from the same spot. Though we will greatly miss her chasing the boys around the house trying to give them lipstick kisses, her endless Sunday afternoon golf watching, her complaining about gaining an extra pound, and her telling us the same stories and asking the same questions four or five time a day (she was 84 after all),
we are so glad that she is finally able to be back with her family and in the arms or her husband and best friend.
Her memorial will be on Monday at the National Cemetery in Santa-Fe, NM.
Our plans are to be back in the studio and to work the day or two following her burial.

As beautiful and celebrated is birth, should also be death. Though a spot on this earth and in our hearts is now empty, a new spot in heaven is full. Life is renewed and eternity awaits.

9 months and just a few more to go!!

Little Jackson is now nine months. They only have one session left in our new life program and though we are excited to see him turn 1, we will be sad not to see that growth every few months. This session took us to the studio and the park near old town. We had a great time just letting Jack play with mom, dad and grandma, and just being able to be out in the beautiful weather.

All because two people fell in love!

I got to go to San Antonio this past weekend to spend time with my best friend, her husband, their 5 dogs, and brand new baby Luka! I have been waiting for so long for Tera & Troy to join the ranks of parenthood (outside of parenting dogs!), and it was fun to see them adapt to it so quickly! I thought I was going out to help them, but they had everything under control. So I got to have the privilege of watching them and photographing what I saw. Luka is adorable and I swear she changed everyday I was there, and even more since I left. I had a great time, even though I had to fight Troy to hold Luka, but I am so proud of them, and incredibly happy to be a part of their lives! Congrats and much love! D

By the way, that last picture, was just seconds before Luka peed all over Troy! Tera and I could do nothing but laugh, I thought for sure I was going to be sent home early for suggesting they hold her naked! Thanks for being a good sport, and I hope the outcome was worth it!

Beauty! Growth!

We have known Nesli and Adam for many years now. Every January we would watch her walk down the catwalk for a bridal gown runway show. We photographed her engagement session with her wonderful husband Adam. Now we have been able to photograph her maternity images and will be photographing thier new baby, Dayla next week. We had a great time with them and love photographing them. The first time we met Adam he was a bit uncomfortable with being photographed, but quickly loosened up and was surprised at how quick, painless, and fun it was. This time he spent about an hour in the studio in just his boxers and seemed to feel as comfortable as if he were at home! Being able to see the growth of these individuals into couples and them into families, is what our job is all about!
Congratulations you two!
