Alva, faith trust and pixie dust

Alva, came to the studio a few weeks back wanting to do a session for her high school senior year. She had just one suggestion she wanted to be a fairy! Well, even though we had the wings in the studio we had never really put them to use other than with little kids. I also had some globes in the studio that I have been wanting to put to some good use! Well when Alva wanted to be a fairy. We knew we could do something cool. So, here is one of the images from that session.
Alva came with faith and trust and I just added a little of my pixie dust!

ok so we have been through two blog evolutions over the since we started blogging in 2007. Now it is time for the third, hopefully this one will last a bit longer. For all of you who subscribe to our blog you might have to make a change to your feed! SORRY! We are switching back from hosting it on our own site to hosting it on the blogger site. there will be more features and it will be a friendlier blog that way. They have made some changes that make it sooooo worth the swap!!!! this will most likely happen over the weekend! so HEADS UP!!!!

Bentley and Sean

Nua Music

We visited my family in the Phoenix area recently. While we were there we photographed our brother Telepeti "Bet" Fanua. He writes and records and produces music. He is always writing and producing but most of the recording has been for other people. We convinced him to start recording so he whipped out this song in the course of a day or two and sent it to us. Take a listen! We are trying to get him to write and record more so if you like it please leave a comment and let us know. Also since this his his freshman attempt recording in this genre, any comments or suggestions on making it better would be greatly appreciated!!

I'm no professional but... oh yes, in fact I AM a professional and this is some pretty sweet lighting. First person to tell me how I did this image below, what type of light i used and where, I will send them a crisp clean one dolla bill!

This image below also had some magic light, any guesses?

last but not least, under the tracks. This lighting was pretty obvious! and no I didn't use my super wonderful speed lights.

Normally Desiree is shooting with me but for this, I dragged her out of bed to come be my mobile light stand! Bravo Desiree not only is she one of my all time favorite photographers, she is my new favorite light stand!

Bentley & Sean; a walk through time

OK, so there are a few event planners that Desiree and I really like to work with. One of whom is planning her own wedding and another great coordinator is doing the day of coordinating for that wedding. Bentley with Savoir-Faire Event is gittin' hitched to the beau of her dreams- Sean.
Karen with Celebrations will be helping Bentley with all of the 'day of' coordinating.

After the crazy winds from the first week in March forced us to postpone our shoot, we were able to meet up with Sean and Bentley on an absolutely beautiful day the next week in an absolutely beautiful place! I could have spent the entire day there shooting it was amazing. I have yet to look through all of the images from the shoot but here are a few that I pulled up while I was transferring the images to the computer. I was looking through a few of them this morning and there are a ton of great images. The wedding is going to be an intimate event with the closest friends and family there. We have the honor of being able to be there to see Sean and Bentley join together!

We started to session with some pretty straight forward modern images.

About an hour into the session we pulled out some props changed clothes and did things up how we like 'em, nice and different!

OK, No this is not on original idea, that is pretty obvious, but come on. have you seen a photo like this lately?

we try to pull in some environmental aspect into each shoot. The silo with the name and date on it is as bout as good as it gets to show where we were.

Just a quick post. We had an Intimate session the other day. At the end of the session I remembered about this mask that we had for a bridal show a number of years ago. I pulled it out and asked if we could get a few pics with the mask. I shot 6 or 7 images and here are two of them, I dig 'em hope you do too!

Motley Family

A few weeks ago we had another opportunity to work with some great people and good friends. The Motley family met us out at the petroglyph park and we took the evening to photograph their family before Terrance left on a church mission. He will be gone for two years in Italy teaching about the birth, teachings, atonement, crucifixion, and resurrection of Christ. It's an amazing thing to see a 19 year old young man have such a dedication and love for the gospel that he will dedicate two years of his life to it. We wish him all the best and hope that his family doesn't miss him too much!
We look forward to when Terrance comes home so we can do another session with the entire family.

Legacy

The wrinkles in Flora's hands were more evident against the young skin of baby Olivia. Though they are separated by 97 years, they are connected through the blood that runs through their veins. Four generations of women, four lives, though each different, are tied together as family.
We had an amazing honor of photographing a four generation family as part of our Legacy session.

We are re-introducing our Legacy Limited Edition Session this month. This is an amazing opportunity for us to capture the relationship we share with one another before it becomes too late.
Desiree will be sharing, in an upcoming post and email, her story of why we are so passionate about these sessions. Her story comes from her regret in not taking the time to bring her grandmother into the studio to get pictures with our grandsons before it was too late.
The Medina family took advantage of the time they still had and we were able to capture their relationship and preserve that for their family forever!

Love Stories Winner

Miranda and Enrico were the winners of this years Love Stories. We had them into the studio last week and really enjoyed talking with them. They are a great couple and their story is so much more involved than the short story represented. They are both dedicated and caring people. After working out the details of their wedding and getting to know them, I took a second in the ally way at our studio to photograph them so that we could place faces to the names and the story!

The 21st of February was a pretty good day. We just returned from our largest wedding workshop of the year. I had just checked off my 34th birthday! on the calendar and we were at a wedding doing what we love!
Greg and Amanda both work for Advertising agencies in NYC. They are both wonderful people with great families, which we really enjoyed the spending the day with!

Finally,
we are back in the saddle, or back in the office chair in front of the computer. With a dark chocolate/chili bar next to me and a Dr. Pepper chillin' in the fridge, I am ready to pick up with the blog and... wow I can really taste the chili in this chocolate.

Drum Roll Please..............

So after two hours of counting around a thousand votes, from all over the world including Iraq and Tanzania, both comments and direct emails, we have a definite winner!

First we want to thank each of you who participated in this year's love story contest. We had a great time reading your stories, and yes Desiree cried through many of them. I'm a tuff guy so I didn't cry, my allergies did act up a couple of times though! There are so many stories that are so touching that people really need to hear. I'm glad we were able to provide an outlet for you to share the love and joy that makes life so amazing! We hope that those friends and family and people who regularly read 'Keepin up,' were as touched by your stories as we have been. It was great to see so many people write in their wishes of love for each of these great couples.
Congratulations to Miranda and Enrico. The support of their friends and family was enormous.
I'm glad to see so many of your friends and family supporting you two in your decision to get married and start a new family together. From the comments alone we are very excited to get to know the two of you more.

Congratulations to all of the other couples that entered our love story contest. Because we had such a hard time picking our own favorite, and loved these stories so much, Desiree and I have talked about this and want to give each of you, (the finalists) two extra hours of photo coverage when you commission us for your wedding.

We are doing some photo workshops over the next few days. When we come into the studio Friday (Feb 20th) in the morning we will count up all the votes and announce the winners of our Love Stories giveaway!

Keep Voting until then. Also if your story is one of our finalists and you have not sent us your wedding date, PLEASE do so! Before we can announce the winner we need to make sure that date is still open!!!

WOW!!!
The response to our Love Stories give away has been crazy! we have received some amazing stories. It has come to the point of needing to make a decision on our winner. Unfortunately, Desiree and I can not come to a decision on our own! We need your help. We will be posting the top stories. and letting you decide! Call your friends, family, neighbor, neighbor's friends, and anyone else and have them visit our blog and vote on your story. Each comment left will count as one for for the couple the comment is left about. 2008, A quick review (of weddings at least)

Well here it is, the long awaited, much anticipated, and very under-rated '2008 Highlights' show. This is a short one this year, we tried to keep it to one song so if your wedding didn't get in it's not because we don't love and adore you, it's just well, I had to choose and based on the mood i was in at the time i did the show I picked these. If I did another slide show next week they may be completely different images... Ah mood swings, an amazing thing. Anyhow, enjoy!
Just think YOU TOO can be apart of our super amazing, jealousy creating, sweet tasting, 2009 slide show. All you have to do is commission us to photograph your wedding. How much easier could it be?

Sandia casino bridal show

We just finished with the Sandia casino bridal show. We had a great time met a lot of great couples and got to hang out with some photographer friends. Small world

We recently had some clients of our neighboring dance studio stop by to ask about doing some photo work for them. As Carolina and Desiree were talking they realized that we has some very close friends in common. Those friends happen to live 700ish miles away in San Antonio.
Anyway, her family came to our studio the other night and we went over to the park by the studio and had some fun, well until Gianna fell and bumped her head... ouch

Sundance 09 wrap up

So another year at Sundance film festival. This year was not bad...
Last year the the highs were barely in the low 20s it snowed almost every day and we were chasing a snow storm all the way home.
This year the highs were in the upper 30s sunny and beautiful.
Our small group includes me, Paul simmons, a local illustrator and graphic artist (www.cerebralgraphics.com) and Brent Peterson a local film maker (www.peterson-productions.com).
Last year was hard for me to be walking to a theater or riding in a bus seeing all of the skiers on the slopes and not going. This year we took an extra day and went Skiing. We went to Brighton Ski Resort. It's not one of the top rated ski resorts in Utah but it's where I grew up skiing so we went there for nostalgia and to keep on budget.
Saturday was our fist day of screenings. I forgot the order of screenings but between Saturday and Monday we saw:
Documentary shorts program, two other shorts programs, Sin Nombre (excellent film watch for it) the clone returns home, Cold Souls, Art and Copy, and Adam, We tried to get into Brief interviews with hideous men but but the entourage for the film was, according to Sundance officials, "exceedingly large". We ended the trip with a visit to Ikea followed by another movie; Grand torino. If you have not see it do, It's very funny. Not intended to be so funny but we laughed through the whole movie. The acting was absolutely horrible. And Clint spat out so many racial slurs I lost count. His continuous growling at the screen was pretty funny too.
This year we drove home with nothing but blue skis and sunshine. All in all a pretty nice trip.
I even didn't mind sitting on the chair lift at Brighton talking with someone from Poland who did nothing but criticize our government, It was a nice entertaining way to pass 7 1/2 minutes!

Sundance Film Festival 2009

Sorry this is just a text post. I am at an experimental film venue and they have internet but no means of uploading images.
I have found myself many things overrthe course of the past few days here at Sundance. I have been thrilled amazed, intrigued, inspired, offended, apalled. I have seen films that bleed emotion and creation and films the reek of immaturity and pretense.
We were at the world premier of Sin Nombre a fantastic film about the trials of cental americans trying to be free. Watch for it!
I am off to a great little sushi bar, from what I hear it's one i will have to add to my list... watch for my sushi post!!!
I'll get some images up soon!
